The original idea: Discarded

Just one more curious.
đź’ˇ The Business Idea
A few weeks ago, I started exploring a very specific problem: building a simple management tool for small auto repair shops. The inspiration was personal—my brother runs one, and I’ve seen how many operational tasks are still handled with pen and paper, WhatsApp messages, and a lot of back-and-forth with customers.
The goal was to build a lightweight web app that would allow:
Admins (mechanics or shop owners) to register customers and their vehicles.
Update the vehicle status (diagnosis, in repair, ready for pickup).
Generate a final receipt with repair details.
Let customers log in and view their vehicle’s status in real time—no need to call or text.
A simple, niche-focused tool with clear value for small workshops.
📊 Early Validation
The idea looked promising. I even sketched out the core user flows and technical sequences.
Flowchart
📉 Why I Discarded It
Although the idea solved a real (and personal) pain point, further research revealed:
The market exists, but it's small and highly fragmented.
There are already several solutions out there (CarPower, ServitechApp, WinMoto), although many are outdated or aimed at mid-sized businesses.
Market growth is slow. There's interest, but not at a scale where a solo dev can launch a successful SaaS without major sales or distribution backing.
Most importantly: I couldn’t find strong active demand. No one on forums, Reddit, or Google seemed to be urgently searching for this kind of solution.

| Key Question | Result |
| Is this a problem I see daily? | âś… Yes |
| Can I build it and stand out in the market? | ⚠️ Unclear |
| Can I ship a landing page + waitlist easily? | âś… Yes |
| Is there clear demand without existing users? | ❌ No |
And from there, the decision became obvious.
🗑️ What I Learned by Throwing It Out
Validating early saved me weeks (or months) of building.
Not every real problem is a scalable business opportunity.
Just because something would help one person doesn’t mean it’s sellable.
Killing an idea fast is still progress.
🧠What’s Next?
Back to square one. Now I’m searching for a problem that:
Has active search traffic and discussion online.
Shows signs of people struggling to solve it already.
Can be addressed with a small MVP and tested with real feedback.
The next idea won’t be perfect either—but at least it’ll be more informed.
